Clicking and Popping are common TM Joint  (TMJ) symptoms..  They are not the symptoms that make patients seek treatment.  Clicking and popping is a sign of an internal derangement in the TMJ but usually have little or no pain associated with them.

Neuromuscular Dentists are well known for expertise in treating TMJ Disrders, Migraines and Chronic Daily Headaches but patients do not usually consider seeing their dentist for neck and shoulder pain. 

There are enormous postural connection connections bthat encompas jaw position and head position. Musculoskeletal Dentistry is the whole body connection to neuromuscular dentistry.  When the jaw position changes so does the head position.  Chronic overuse of neck and shoulder muscles is a frequent cause of Trigger points and taut band.  When these form the condition is called Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction.

Migraines are commonly treated with a wide variety of medications, particularly the Triptan family.  These drugs all work to change the neurotransmitter balance in the brain and to change blood flow to the brain.

Welcome to the new website for North Shore Sleep Dentistry, Office of Dr. Ira L. Shapira!

I have been treating TMJ Disorders and associated tension headaches, chronic daily headaches and migraines for over 30 years in my Gurnee office. My new office at 3500 Western Ave in Highland Park will be dedicated to the treatment of chronic pain and sleep disorders.
